What is the most important fundamental question about the floor plan summarized in 130 characters?
The floor plan is basically fixed, but for noise (street) and privacy reasons, we want to mirror the whole house so the garage, front door, bay window, house, and terrace are positioned from west to east.

Unfortunately, this has sparked many discussions because the plot was gifted to us by family whose house behind is slightly elevated (about 3m (10 ft), on the north side). They fear their house will no longer be visible from the south if we move the garage to within 2–3m (6.5–10 ft) of the western boundary. However, if we move it back 6–7m (20–23 ft) to where the current house corner is, there is about 80m² (860 sq ft) of "wasted space" between the boundary, street, driveway, and garage. Do you have any ideas on how to make use of this space or avoid it altogether without compromising the rest of the design?

The images still show the old version, as we will only redesign once we find a solution...

Thank you very much!

I would seriously consider finding another plot somewhere else before becoming the cause of a family dispute.

If only something were available nearby right now... I didn’t expect it to get this bad.
What could I possibly do with these 80m² (860 sq ft)? Sure, maybe a carport one day, but in the near future? Honestly, I’d rather plant a 20m (65 ft) tall tree...

Seriously, paving would cost me 2000€ more, which isn’t necessary.

Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean by the 80m² (860 ft²). Could you please make a sketch?
Where would the relative’s house be approved?

Here you go. The red-bordered area shows the dead zone between the garage and the driveway.
A minimum distance of 7m (23 feet) from the property boundary is acceptable.

This means that we will have to pave at least 30m² (320 square feet) more.

Just for the sake of peace and because it was a gift... I would consider planning for the 7m (23 feet). That doesn't mean it's a "dead" area.

And why do you need to pave an extra 30m² (320 square feet)? The driveway is only shifting towards the south, right? So you don't have to pave everything in the north because of that. You could put a hedge in the north and some flowers in front of it, or where exactly is the problem?

The driveway is actually shifting eastward, not south. If I keep a 3m (10 ft) distance from the western street, I have to pave that 3m as well. If I maintain a 7m (23 ft) distance, I obviously need to pave 7m.

4m (13 ft) additional distance to the junction × 7m (23 ft) width for the driveway × 25€ per m² for the paving = 700€.

Oh, I see,
a small misunderstanding. I thought 7 meters (23 feet) to the south would be allowed.

Okay, the driveway might be a bit longer – but then you won’t have to worry about where visitors can park their cars. Also, you probably already know where the trash bins could be placed conveniently... Quickly parking bikes, cleaning the car, setting up a workbench for some cutting... a paved area like that is very useful.

If it’s so important to your relatives, let them cover the extra costs...
