ᐅ Do photovoltaic systems and heat pumps share similar performance characteristics or operational experiences?

Hello dear forum members,

Since Monday afternoon, my photovoltaic system has been up and running, and I have to say... I can’t stop smiling.

Here are the details:
  • 5.4 kWp (18 modules at 300 W each)
  • Peak power limitation 70% soft
  • Flat roof, mounting angle 10°
  • Orientation southwest, about 45° off south
  • Feed-in to household electricity including heat pump
  • Surplus energy sale
  • no battery storage

Today’s performance:

Diagram: Production 21.29 kWh on 09.03.2016; grid power (pink) and direct consumption (blue)

The gray line represents household consumption, the blue and red areas show production, where the blue part was self-consumed and the red part was sold.

You can clearly see the washing machine running in the morning, the regular starts of the heat pump, midday consumption, and even the not-so-optimally started dishwasher after 6 p.m.

For a (very good) day in March, I’m more than satisfied. The only thing is that the heat pump in the early morning isn’t yet running as efficiently as I’d like. But I guess only a battery would help with that, and that still seems uneconomical to me.

KfW 153 is not directly related to "Energy-efficient construction – for building or first-time purchase of a new KfW efficiency house."

We are currently also exploring the concepts and options available here. Among other things, it seems possible to receive subsidies through BAFA for "heating with renewable energies."

Don’t immediately say no just because you don’t know. Our house was designed to KfW 70 standard with improved insulation. We easily met this standard. However, a repayment bonus was no longer available there even a year ago.

Since our energy consultant did a good job, he also calculated how much photovoltaic capacity would be needed to reach KfW 55 standard in order to qualify for the repayment bonus. Since this was achievable, the application was submitted as a KfW 55 house with a repayment bonus.

You could always have stepped back if the funding didn’t work out financially.

So, for us it was effectively the case that the investment in photovoltaic panels directly and immediately resulted in a grant of 2,500 euros and should therefore be allocated to that item.

By the way, there are very few KfW programs that are less attractive than program 274. Any mortgage loan (unless it is a 110% financing) is better in comparison.

Only the subsidy for battery storage makes it somewhat attractive. But even here, the payback period is still far too long.

And in 2014, BAFA did not support heating technology in the form of a heat pump with deep geothermal energy.

Don’t always say no right away if you have no idea.

A forum should serve to exchange information, basically a simple question-and-answer game. Personal remarks you can keep to yourself, thanks.

The rest is fine, but nobody could have expected that you would offset the improvement from 70 to 55 against the resulting repayment bonus.

You could always withdraw later if the finances didn’t work out.

So, practically speaking, the investment in photovoltaics immediately and directly resulted in a subsidy of 2,500 euros and should be accounted for in that item accordingly.

Very forward-thinking.
I didn’t know you could submit two applications and possibly withdraw one later.

How did the photovoltaic system affect the numbers? For example, before installation you reached 65%. After installation, are you at 50%?
Since we decided to include photovoltaics at short notice during construction, I’m interested in the impact of including it in the calculation. I guess I’m too “dumb” to interpret that from the energy certificate.

Yes – unfortunately. That only started in 2015. What a ... .

No, you cannot submit two applications. You can only submit one application BUT!!! You can always adjust the application downward.

So, calculate 55, apply for it, build accordingly. Good.

Calculate for 55, don’t build that way, check the result if it’s 70. All good. The grant is just lost.

Calculate for 70, build 55… bad luck. No chance for an upgrade or repayment grant.

The rest I would have to look up in the documents.

Reducing from 70 to 55 is possible, but no intermediate funds must have been withdrawn yet.
