ᐅ Photovoltaic system / heat pump – do you have two meters?

Hello and Happy New Year!
I have a question – since last October, we have had a photovoltaic system on the roof, including a battery storage.

Previously, we had two electricity meters: one for general electricity and one for the heat pump because of the reduced electricity rate.
Our electrician connected the heat pump’s electricity to the general meter due to the photovoltaic system, so we could see how this setup works and whether the heat pump benefits from the solar generation.
In December, we had a consumption of 700 kWh, which is quite high! Our general electricity use is usually around 250 to 300 kWh per month.
I understand that these are the darker months and it should improve from March, with likely much lower electricity consumption as the photovoltaic system generates more and the heat pump uses less.
How do you handle this – do you only have one meter now? Or do you keep the heat pump on a separate meter?

Thanks and best regards

Hello everyone,

A quick question:
The system has been running since mid-August. I still have 2 meters that were somehow newly connected.
I'm currently trying to handle the VAT advance return, but I'm a bit confused. I haven’t received a contract for the feed-in tariff from the energy provider yet. It’s in progress but is taking some time. Without this contract and the numbers included in it, I can’t complete the VAT advance return, right? How do you usually proceed in this case?
Does anyone perhaps have a document that generally explains this topic in an easy way?
Regards
Good morning, we had the same problem last year. We just declared zero everywhere, and that was accepted. I spoke with the tax office, and they confirmed this to me. Later, when we received the first bill from the electricity provider, we simply paid the excess amount.
We had to submit it monthly for the first few months, but now it’s on a quarterly basis.

Have you already registered your self-employed activity and received a tax identification number (or been informed that you should use your private tax number)?

You can already calculate your own consumption. You know the production amount, and you can read the feed-in from the meter. Otherwise, just enter any amount (to be honest, you can also declare 0 and settle everything at the end of the year).
Have you already reclaimed the VAT on your purchase?
Record the utility provider’s invoice in the month you receive the payment (cash accounting / accounting on collection—just search for these terms).
In the following year, you can submit an informal request to be exempt from filing advance VAT returns due to low turnover. Then you only have to file the annual VAT return.

Yes, I have received a new tax number. I want to file quarterly instead of monthly.
For now, I will report 0€ and hope that is acceptable. It is never possible to reach anyone by phone. I have already sent several emails requesting a callback and included my number. It’s difficult...
I need to take a closer look at Elster again. I have a hard time dealing with this kind of thing 🙂
I will get the VAT paid on the installation refunded, right?

Yes, just declare the VAT you paid, and you will get it refunded.
The first time, or if the amount is unusual, receipts will probably be requested.

Get your Elster certificate in advance.
There are also tools that help with photovoltaic taxes, for example, the tax saver declaration in the Plus version can do that.

I already have the certificate. I have also tried to fill out the form, but I’m having some trouble understanding it completely.

And do not sign any contract for feed-in. It is not necessary, as the utility company is obligated to purchase the electricity.
