Hello,

we are building a fairly large KFW55EE house with external dimensions of approximately 10x14m (33x46 feet) and a roof pitch of 15° (roof surfaces facing north and south).
We have a lot of window area (100m2 (1,076 sq ft)) and expect an energy consumption of about 7-9k kWh per year due to the size.
Heating is provided by underfloor heating with the Tecalor THZ 504 air-to-water heat pump.

Feed-in tariffs are no longer significant, but the electricity price is currently 45 cents/kWh.
We would have to finance the photovoltaic system ourselves because there is no sufficient budget left.

> From a profitability perspective, does a photovoltaic system make sense in our situation?
> What size and costs should we expect?
> Should it be installed directly or should we first prepare with conduits?
> We also have an attached 6x6m (20x20 feet) flat-roof garage on the east side. Would adding photovoltaic panels there be beneficial?

I will, of course, speak with companies but would like to gather some opinions beforehand.

Thank you in advance. 🙂

I’m really frustrated—my installer canceled. He said the travel distance is too far, and it’s no longer profitable for him. Most likely, their schedule is just fully booked.

The next quote I received is almost 2,000 euros more.

Let’s see what I decide to do.

Slightly off-topic 😀 :p VW will no longer exist in the car market within 5-6 years at the latest. They were once working with combined heat and power plants when they thought the market was ready. VW is easily about 5 years behind technologically, and not just behind Tesla. Speaking of Tesla, I paid for the Y today; it will be delivered on March 17. That will be the second company BEV alongside my "small" MX-30.

For a company that is so far behind, they were still the first German automaker to bring useful and affordable electric vehicles to market. Strange, isn’t it?

Strange that VW sells more electric vehicles than Tesla (in Europe) if they're supposedly going to disappear soon. 😳

Audi reached an all-electric vehicle (BEV) share of 4.9 percent in 2021, Mercedes including Smart had 4.1 percent, while VW achieved about 5.4 percent. These figures come from the sales numbers of VW’s core brand based in Wolfsburg.

Across all powertrain types, VW delivered around 4.90 million vehicles, approximately eight percent less than in 2020. Of these, about 263,000 were battery-electric vehicles. This means the company doubled its BEV deliveries compared to the previous year.

However, VW is nowhere near Tesla’s numbers. Elon Musk delivered nearly 940,000 electric vehicles worldwide in 2021—more than three times the amount of VW. If you add up the BEV sales of all VW Group brands—core VW (263,000), Audi (82,000), Skoda (49,000), Porsche (41,000), and Cupra (3,000)—the total comes to about 438,000 BEVs, which is roughly half the number of electric cars Tesla sold.

The sources cited there include VW, Porsche, and others.

By the way, in October 2021, Tesla’s market capitalization was already eight times higher than VW’s.
We’ll talk again in five years 😉 China, like many other (Nordic) countries, will soon allow only BEVs, well ahead of Germany.
If the Chinese market completely collapses for VW (which is already largely happening), the future looks bleak for VW… unfortunately. The European market alone is not enough for a global automaker.

P.S.: I generally like VW. We still have three in the family; one will go as soon as the Tesla arrives. The build quality and craftsmanship are really good.
If VW collapses, it would be catastrophic for Germany. But they have not recognized the signs of the times. Examples of how things can go wrong: Nokia 🙄

452,900 BEV sales ==> growth rate compared to the previous year 96%. In addition, 309,500 plug-in hybrids. Considering the development, which is not necessarily as steep with other manufacturers, there is no need to worry about VW. I would be more concerned about Tesla. Because the market share is now spread across many more manufacturers and at the same time the technological lead is no longer as large.

I think VW has adapted quickly. We will see. I would bet against @i_b_n_a_n. But in 5 years, no one will remember it anyway 😀
