Hello everyone!
We are moving near Bremen, in northern Germany, and are considering installing a photovoltaic system. There are several providers offering solar solutions, and in our own research, we have frequently come across the specialist mentioned above. However, we don’t know anyone personally in the area who has had solar systems installed and could share their own experience with us.
The photovoltaic panels would need to be mounted directly onto the roof tiles of the house, as it is a single-family home with a pitched roof. I would say that the roof is in good condition and likely won’t need to be replaced in the coming years, so a mounted (also called “rack-mounted” or “on-roof”) installation should not be a problem. However, I am absolutely not a professional and would definitely have an expert take care of it.
I would really appreciate any personal experiences with local providers!

In the community newsletters I know, the company that did the work is usually not mentioned. I basically understand what you mean, but in rural areas like ours, there are definitely many skilled tradespeople who have little or no connection to the internet. Yes, maybe the local newsletter will mention them, but not in the form of reviews. And reviews don’t come in large numbers unless the company explicitly asks customers to rate them. If it’s a local company, it will definitely be listed. If it’s an international corporation, it probably won’t be. These community newsletters also have the purpose of supporting local businesses. Usually, the newspapers are even initiated by the local business owners.
It doesn’t matter if the company is interested in the internet or not. If they do poor work, it will be reflected online nowadays, whether the company likes it or not. At most, they can ask Google to remove the review or take legal action against the person who wrote the negative review.
Some customers get upset over every little detail. If a tradesperson arrives not exactly at 8 but at 8:05, for some people that already feels like a disaster and everything else becomes irrelevant. Read some reviews carefully and don’t just focus on the star ratings. Some of the complaints are truly astounding.

Also, I talked to neighbors about their photovoltaic installers and so on. But I realized it’s a tricky topic because everyone has different habits, energy consumption, and priorities. And those factors are important and basically crucial. What neighbors have doesn’t really matter; you have to focus on yourself and cover your own needs and preferences. That also includes the battery storage. Nowadays, it’s becoming less common to have no storage at all. Just last week, there were several reports highlighting how important storage systems are becoming.
To some extent, you can compensate for a missing battery. You can run your washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, etc., during the day. Or if you are home during the day, it’s not a problem. But if you leave the house in the morning and only return in the afternoon or evening, you have sunlight mostly just in the summer. And even then, if I turn on all the devices at once, my solar power generation isn’t enough anymore.
So, personal habits would also need to be adjusted or tailoring the system precisely is necessary. A timer or a smart washing machine is certainly a more affordable solution.
