I would appreciate it if you could share photos of your ceiling lighting or suggestions here. We are currently planning to install many LED spotlights in or on the ceiling (supported by floor and table lamps), but I am looking for alternatives. So far, I think we will have to forego hanging ceiling lamps because our floor-to-ceiling height is only about 2.47 meters (8 feet 1 inch) net (Hobbit house ;-) ) or similar.

For financial reasons, we have not hired a lighting designer.

By the way, we only have 2.47 meters (8.1 feet) on the ground floor... just measured. I don’t find that to be too low.

Have you considered narrow light coves around the perimeter? I find the excessive use of spotlights—which are not really intended for general area lighting—particularly unsuitable in rooms with low ceiling heights.

@ypg May I ask how large your office is, or could you share the floor plan including the furniture layout? I usually only know desks facing into the room in very large halls, which doesn’t seem to be the case for you. I really like the idea of being able to look out the window, make good use of natural light, and still have a view of the room. I’m considering whether that could work in my space as well.

2.47 as a hobbit house is really not the case 😉 In our existing property, we are barely reaching 2.4. In the living room, there will be no recessed ceiling lights, only wall lamps and at most floor lamps. Direct overhead lighting is usually too bright for us there.

@Pinkiponk I was just teasing you in the other thread because based on your preferences, I expected something more retro-style. Ceiling spotlights are fine, but I would always prefer adjustable ones to highlight specific areas when needed. In your case, something beyond just white or anthracite is also welcome. For example:

Or as a ceiling lamp, the ultimate classic: the DCW Lampe Gras, which has been around for about a hundred years in roughly a thousand variations... and they are all beautiful.

Pendant lamps at 2.47m (8 feet 1 inch)? Why not? But please only in places where you are sure you won’t bump into them, such as above the dining table, possibly the kitchen counter or island, or stairs.

You have a nice office. I wouldn’t be able to work there—I’d just lean back and enjoy the view. 🙂

I am about 1.72m (5 ft 8 in), my husband is about 1.89m (6 ft 2 in).

I’ll look into that; honestly, I hadn’t thought about it yet.
