Hello everyone,
we ordered a new kitchen for our new house. I had the room measured by IKEA to avoid any potential issues. However, I am assembling the kitchen myself. The countertop was either planned incorrectly or cut to the wrong size. The IKEA employee calculated the measurements and drew the sketch herself. I only signed the order, but all the dimensions came from IKEA.
Out of 3 pieces, 2 are too short. The mistake was probably because the countertop was supposed to serve as a windowsill. The employee was aware of this, but even if there was no window at all, the countertop would still be too short.
The order states that the measurements are from the customer and that the countertop cannot be exchanged or returned. Since I can only visit IKEA over the weekend, I signed up here to find out if IKEA rejects every complaint of this kind or if I can wait for the weekend without worry.
Has anyone had experience with faulty custom countertops from IKEA?
Thank you in advance,
Philip

IKEA-Profi4 Oct 2016 21:58Was the panel delivered different from what you ordered, or did you receive a panel that was incorrectly designed? You signed off several times for a panel with specific dimensions... If you signed off on the wrong order, your chances are probably slim, since those signatures serve as proof...
Great. It’s really frustrating when the “trained kitchen planner” designs a countertop that doesn’t fit the base cabinets at all. It can’t be true that the customer has to find the mistake made by the IKEA employee. From the beginning, another employee recommended having the room measured to avoid such problems, and the planner also told me that a second employee would review the plans and get in touch if there were any issues before the order was placed.
Well, it was a very long day of planning, and the countertop came in at the very end, with the employee calculating everything herself. I wonder if in other kitchen studios the customer also has to verify the dimensions planned by the kitchen designer.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the only mistake in the planning… glass shelves in the wall cabinet above the range hood, missing hinges, and so on.

IKEA-Profi5 Oct 2016 07:14There are enough customers who insist on some unusual DIY solutions with "odd" panel orders.
In the factory, of course, the kitchen is not visible and cannot be checked anymore.
If something goes wrong even under the four-eyes principle, that is unfortunate.
And yes, such things should be checked. I don’t find that unusual.
Just as deliveries should be checked to ensure all parts are there and the packages are undamaged. That is exactly why you confirm whether everything is OK or not.
I would still file a complaint. Even if you did not insist on the “wrong” dimensions, there is still a chance to get a new panel. The additional waiting time is, of course, equally frustrating.

IKEA-Profi5 Oct 2016 21:38I recently signed something "blindly" and ended up very frustrated and running around afterwards.
