Hello,

we are currently in the final phase of building our house.
The wall construction consists of 17.5 cm (7 inches) Poroton blocks, mineral wool insulation, and facing bricks.
After the work on the brick veneer facade, Styrodur insulation boards were installed around the base of the house to a depth of approximately 80 cm (31 inches). This was done around the entire perimeter, including the entrance area and near the patio doors.

The construction management explained that this method is necessary to protect the masonry from rising damp.

I have not encountered this construction method before and find it hard to imagine how, for example, a stable entrance platform could be built or a drip edge installed continuously around the house.

I have an appointment with a building surveyor next Monday, but I would like to ask the forum for advice in advance.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to upload photos because the files are always too large, even though they are under 1 MB. Does anyone have any tips for this?

Best regards

So, is the perimeter insulation located outside the facing bricks? What is the weight of the facing layer? What is between the facing bricks and the backing wall at the base?

Without photos, I generally find this difficult to assess.

A picture would be helpful.

Basically, mineral wool is not suitable as perimeter insulation because it absorbs water and is not pressure-resistant. XPS is the standard in this case.

XPS is definitely solid. Entire houses are built on it.

There are entire houses on that.

But better avoid cavity wall linings.

First of all, thank you for the responses.
I have now managed to attach a few pictures by reducing their size further.
I think this will make the situation clearer.
Looking forward to more replies.
