Hello dear forum community,

I am currently considering whether it is worthwhile to purchase a pellet stove instead of a conventional wood-burning stove.
The advantage of the pellet stove is that it can be programmed for time and temperature, while the wood stove is cheaper.
Has anyone already had experience with a pellet stove and would like to share it with me? :-)

P.S.
The stove is intended to be installed only as a supplementary heat source in the living room and kitchen.

Many thanks in advance

A pellet stove requires an electrical connection and regular maintenance. Pellets cost 0.25€/kg, which is more expensive than wood briquettes (0.2€/kg) or firewood. Compared to the others, I would consider a soapstone side cladding sufficient for heat storage. Any stove can be controlled.

What’s so bad about the electrical connection? The few watts of power consumption are negligible.

What kind of regular maintenance are you referring to? The chimney sweep comes as usual, and that’s it.

And the ash isn’t even worth mentioning. Every Sunday, I empty the small ash pan—that’s all. Not comparable to a wood-burning fireplace.

Five years ago, we renovated a house and heat it exclusively with the pellet stove in the living room.

One ton of pellets at 15 kg (33 lbs) per bag according to DIN A1+ costs 230 euros on Ebay Classifieds. With that, we heat our home for one year.

The pellet stove has a nice flame pattern and automatically reaches the desired temperature. My girlfriend also says it’s the best decision we’ve made. Exactly one bag of 15 kg (33 lbs) fits into the stove’s hopper. That lasts us for two days. The stove is set to 22 degrees Celsius (72°F). It switches on at 19 degrees Celsius (66°F) and heats up to 24 degrees Celsius (75°F). Then it waits again until the temperature drops.

We installed the one from Hark.

That sounds really great. Which model did you install exactly?

Best regards

If you want it for coziness (and of course as additional heat), I think a regular stove is hard to beat. But pellet stoves have their advantages, like on/off operation with just the push of a button. For me, though, it’s somehow not cozy enough. I need that classic wood fire feeling 🙂
