Hello everyone,
I am currently deciding on a type of oak parquet flooring and have already compared several manufacturers.
Generally, I prefer oiled parquet over lacquered. I have already picked out a favorite.

However, I noticed that this option is quite expensive, which is not necessarily a dealbreaker. I know that many forum members have installed parquet, so I would like to ask if anyone has laid similar flooring and can share their experiences. The parquet will only be installed in the living and dining areas, as well as the living rooms. For the kitchen, bathroom, and guest toilet, I will only consider tiles.

I look forward to your feedback and experiences.
Best regards,

What kind of experience do you need? I’ve installed many different types of hardwood flooring over the past 20 years.

In conclusion: It’s all wood in the end. Installation methods vary slightly (cheap click-lock systems don’t fit as well). The wear layer, which you probably won’t sand down yourself for the next 25 years anyway, is thick enough everywhere. Choose what you like and enjoy it.

P.S. Currently using smoked oak by Haro. Before that, white-oiled oak engineered flooring for 25€ (approx. 28 USD) per square meter. Before that, Haro Sauvage oak. Before that, Ter Hürne wenge and something with maple. Once the flooring is installed, you won’t notice any difference—I mean, you can’t tell which flooring had which price just by looking at or feeling it.

I have had Parador 3060 oiled 3-strip oak flooring for 10 years and can fully recommend it. It has held up very well with minimal maintenance. I installed it myself, which went smoothly. However, I glued it down because I wanted a firm feel underfoot and to avoid excessive insulation of the underfloor heating. I would do it the same way again.

At the time, I obtained quotes from various suppliers, and the prices varied significantly. In any case, it was much cheaper than the recommended retail price. In the end, my cost was about €30 per square meter (about $32 per square yard) delivered, with 3-strip being less expensive than engineered plank flooring.

Back then, I ordered several samples from different manufacturers, which were either free or very inexpensive. I would say there are noticeable differences, most easily seen in the thickness of the wear layer. A sample of two-layer parquet from a well-known manufacturer actually damaged itself over the Christmas period without being installed (warped so badly it splintered). That option was immediately ruled out....

After looking at many samples, we decided on Weitzer (I checked: Oak Ice, country-style plank “wild,” beveled, relief-sanded, natural color variations, oiled, 3.6mm wear layer, 14mm total thickness).

We are not "cleaning fanatics" and don’t have an ultra-spotless household. The parquet is installed in the kitchen as well. So far, everything has proven to be reliable, and we have no regrets about our choice.

The key factors for us were
1. The appearance
2. The feel – I could clearly sense differences when holding the various samples. This is purely subjective – I’m not a professional.
3. The company we wanted to work with had experience with this product. (Originally, we planned to choose a different product, but I canceled that because the manufacturer started insisting we use another contractor.)

Whether a different parquet would have led us to the same conclusion after 6 years is quite possible – but I have no comparison now.
