Hello,
I have a few questions: We have purchased a newly built house, and we will have the painting work done by a locally based company. The walls will be handed over with a Q2 level skim coat.
I have now received an offer for the painting work:
Prepare, prime, and wallpaper walls and ceilings, 510m2 (5,490 sq ft) – 10,000€
Paint walls and ceilings – 1,800€
Prices include materials but exclude VAT.
They offered me MODULAN renovation fleece wallpaper, 130g/m2 (4.3 oz/sq yd).
I then chose STOtap pro 550, 150g/m2 (5 oz/sq yd), and the Rapid Ultramatt paint from STO for an additional 1,000€.
Here are my questions:
Is this pricing reasonable?
The company mentioned that they might apply wallpaper directly onto the Q2 finish and only make minor touch-ups. Is Q2 sufficient for wallpapering?
Also, considering this, is the STO wallpaper fleece really significantly better, or is the extra cost not worth it?
I would appreciate any feedback.

Very interesting. Would you like to share more about this after the appointment?
Can you roughly place the location in OWL? I am around the district GT.
How many square meters of walls/ceilings are we talking about for the quoted prices? A brief update from me:
The appointment went well, and the first impression was very friendly, courteous, and fair. He also had good and sensible suggestions regarding our planning.
He will now smooth everything out again, plaster the ceiling joints, and then paint everything white. This is only possible because our lime gypsum plaster has such a good surface. In principle, it could also be painted directly, but then the texture irregularities would show through.
He also offered to start with a “less important” room first, so we can evaluate the result and make a decision for the other rooms.
If he delivers work as good as he seems to us, then there is nothing to complain about. On a personal level, there was nothing to criticize either, while we had much more stress with other craftsmen.
Sounds great, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you! By the way, I just wallpapered with painter’s fleece for the first time—it takes some time, but it’s really not complicated. Getting neat seams is easy enough. There are still 3-4 spots in the house I’m not happy with. Those will be touched up briefly and then it’s done.

Thank you very much in advance.

Andreas Gladly, I’ll send it to you by direct message. Not everything is perfect, but that’s not a big deal for us. They only did the plastering for us, not the wallpapering, and a few spots aren’t 100% perfect, but that’s fine with us. If you look closely after painting work, you’ll always see some small flaws. Overall, though, we are very satisfied.
Besides that, since we moved in, I’ve already made a few dents in the walls myself. It just happens when you live in a place. Especially when you carry the ladder around 100 times a day. 😀
Unfortunately, I am not able to send direct messages yet, but if you google the Hammer site and add "painters and decorators Herford," you will find the subpage with the highest-rated painters and decorators on the website in Herford. It is related to renovation, interior design, and property maintenance services.
A small tip for finding tradespeople on the website:
At first, just send your inquiry; the tradespeople will likely respond with a mobile number and email address. Do not confirm anything on the website or reply in the chat window. Once you respond there, the tradespeople have to pay fees. Therefore, it is best to call or email them directly.
