Hello everyone,

we are currently renovating a house, and now it’s time to paint. Unfortunately, no one in my circle of acquaintances can help me with this.

It’s about the staircase. It’s still the original construction staircase, and now it needs to be painted. What type of paint is best to use? Should it be cleaned of dirt first and roughly sanded? Is a primer necessary?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

I don't really see a reason to sand a primer.
Ultimately, it's an unnecessary step. Anyway, we skipped it, and the paint still holds up.
Even after 5 years

Thanks for the reply.
I've read that many people do it because it helps the paint adhere better.
I will ask at the specialty store.

Yes, definitely buy the paint there. You only need a relatively small can. We have anthracite, which, of course, may require you to apply two coats over white.

No need to sand. It just has to be degreased. Wipe it down with nitro thinner or denatured alcohol before painting. Acetone works too, but it’s actually overkill in this case. Mask the steps carefully, use a small short-pile roller (like a teddy roller), and paint corners with a small brush. K.

No, you remove the steps beforehand. These are construction boards that will still be installed on additional stairs.
