Hello,

We recently had our steel stringer staircase (raw condition) installed in a rust-brown color. We plan to do the painting ourselves.

Should I sand the surface beforehand? If yes, is it better to use a sanding machine or would hand sanding be sufficient?

Or should we apply the primer directly and then paint?

I would appreciate your help!

Best regards, andi

You have to see it in person; it could also be unfinished. The photo doesn't show that clearly to me.

The brown color is the primer!

The original poster should decide. If primed, use only alkyd resin paint; if not, refer to the information above.
