We are about to start the painting work in our new build. The walls are drywall with gypsum fiberboard panels (commonly known as Fermacell) and a standard drywall ceiling. We want to achieve a fine textured finish.
We will handle the joint filling ourselves on the fastening points and seams, with the wall surface already at a Q3 finish level.
There are two options being considered: either having a fine lime plaster applied directly or installing a paint-grade fleece wallpaper and then painting over it. Maybe even a mix of both in different floors or in the children's rooms (we have two toddlers).
In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of each option, including the expected costs?

We also installed Rigidur boards and did a lot of the work ourselves. On the upper floor, we only had the ceilings plastered with a 1mm (0.04 inch) fine coat. The entire staircase was also plastered. Even though the same plaster was used, the staircase looks different from the upper floor ceilings because different tools were used: plastic trowels versus trowels with foam rubber. On the remaining walls, we applied painter’s fleece and then painted over it. We like this combination, even if it’s not perfect. However, I question whether painting work can ever be done perfectly. With painter’s fleece, the smoothness also depends on the type of paint roller used.

Does the painter’s fleece need to be finished to Q3, meaning fully filled? How do the costs for plaster versus painter’s fleece compare?
