Hello dear community,

So far, we have successfully built a solid wood house. Now, the painting work is to be done by ourselves.
Inside, the walls are covered with drywall panels and filled/sanded with Knauf Uniflott.

Our current plan is to prime/spray the walls using an airless device.
It is often recommended to wallpaper with painter’s fleece to prevent cracking.

Does anyone have experience with this?
Thanks!

Hello,

I hope you are still active on this forum, as your building project is probably already completed.

We are currently planning a solid wood house as well, also using the solid wood wall system. Unfortunately, there are hardly any experience reports about this construction method online. By chance, I came across this thread where you mention having built with Herrmann solid wood house, which uses exactly this type of wall.

Have any settlement cracks appeared in your house so far? The manufacturer claims that settlements are almost impossible due to the crosswise construction.
Could you also give me some general feedback on this construction method (for example, was it significantly more expensive than other building methods? Or is the indoor climate really that good? ...)

Thank you and best regards,
Jochen

We also have a solid wood house. I can’t say yet whether there will be any settlement cracks, as we have just moved in. According to the site manager, the most significant settling occurs when the screed is poured. However, it does creak quite noticeably from time to time. Wood naturally expands and contracts.

Hello,

Did you also build with the solid wood wall?

Best regards

Yes, solid wood inside and outside. Only the slope wall is concrete.

OK, so glued laminated timber, nailed crosswise with aluminum pins.

Are you otherwise satisfied with the construction method? Was it significantly more expensive than the timber frame method?

Wall structure – just search for "wir Leben Haus" online.
Cross-laminated timber. Exterior walls are five layers, our ceiling is also five layers (structural engineer decides), interior walls are three layers. The glue content is 0 point something percent and formaldehyde-free.
The individual walls and ceilings are then tensioned on site with large bolts.

The price difference between timber frame interior walls and solid wood was about 1,000 euros for us. I can’t tell you the overall cost for the entire house. At the beginning, we had an offer for a timber frame house, and at that time the prices were quite similar.
