ᐅ Painting concrete: which type of paint and application method should be used?

Hello everyone,

I need to repaint the inside of a cast concrete staircase, not the treads, only the edges. The stairs were already painted white by the previous owner. What would be the best approach to repaint these areas? Since it is indoors and there are many corners and edges to cover, I can’t use a time-consuming method that creates a lot of dust and dirt by completely removing the old paint. Ideally, I would like to paint over the existing paint.

What kind of paint and surface preparation would you recommend?

I’m not sure what type of paint is currently on the surface, as I didn’t do the original painting myself.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I can provide photos if needed.

Best regards,
Sebastian

I have no experience with concrete paint so far, so I have a question. Simply painting over other surfaces doesn’t always lead to the desired result, as is well known, so I just wanted to make sure how it works when painting over already painted concrete. After all, it has different properties compared to other surfaces. And since this is not, for example, a ceiling—which naturally comes into contact with shoes or similar much less often than our staircase—it definitely needs to be durable...

If you have good experience with simply painting over concrete paint without any pretreatment, that would be enough for me. Thank you very much for that!

Best regards, Sebastian

We also used regular concrete paint back then. It worked great.
