Hello everyone, we are currently looking at an old house with red brickwork. We would like to build an extension and are considering painting the red bricks anthracite or white. Has anyone done this before? Do you maybe have photos for us? Perhaps even before and after pictures?

It certainly depends on the quality of the paint and the type of brick, the location and weather exposure, as well as the surface preparation. I wouldn’t recommend doing it. My parents-in-law had their facade sandblasted a few years ago because the light gray painted bricks looked terrible after about 10 years. The problem was probably the mortar joints, where the paint simply wouldn’t adhere permanently.

Why did they paint over the joints?

Let's be honest: Do you really want to avoid painting every single square millimeter of the joint? Good luck with that!
