Hello,

we want to renovate the walls in the basement.

As you can see in the picture, there are still some signs of past mistakes 😉

They were previously painted with regular dispersion paint and partly sprayed with spray cans.

We want to have the walls newly painted white now.

Last year, we had an inspector check the basement and measured everything for moisture. Everything is within the normal range. There are few efflorescence spots on some walls. The wall in the photo faces the neighbor’s property. It is built with these white bricks. There are no efflorescence spots there. The other walls border the exterior and are plastered.

Regarding the plastered walls, the inspector advised applying a mineral lime plaster instead of paint. This would reduce efflorescence because the wall could then “breathe” better.

Now I’m considering just covering all the walls with lime plaster.

Do you think the lime plaster will adhere properly to this painted wall in the photo?

Thanks & best regards,
Peter
