ᐅ Painting a 4-room apartment with kitchen and bathroom (90 sqm) – what type of paint should be used?

Good evening!
We are currently renovating a house and moving into the lower of the two apartments. At the moment, the house is still in the shell stage, and some renovation work is taking place.

It looks like we will be able to start painting soon. We would like to do this before laying the flooring (light-colored parquet).
The area to be painted is approximately 220–230 sq m (2,370–2,475 sq ft) (estimated on the high side). Ceilings are included; doors and windows are not deducted. The basic plan is to paint everything white, with some walls painted in accent colors.

My main problem is: which paint and manufacturer should I choose? We care a lot about healthy indoor air quality, so preferably a paint that helps prevent moisture and mold growth.
For a long time, I have been considering lime paint, but I have read that it is not abrasion-resistant.

Maybe I can get some advice here before I make a purchase.
Thank you very much in advance!

This was recommended to me at a specialist paint store.
It seems to have exactly the qualities I’m looking for and is apparently 100 percent mineral-based.
Unfortunately, I don’t have much knowledge myself...
That’s why I’m turning to you 🙂
I would also appreciate it if questions about quantities could be answered.
Many thanks!

In my view, these only make sense if you have difficult ground conditions, which doesn’t seem to be the case since you’re having everything redone.
Use a dispersion silicate paint. It also has all the good properties and is 95% mineral-based. At the same time, it’s easy to apply.
I think you’ve been made too worried about it.

Thank you for the advice. I am currently considering StoColor Sil Premium. It is on sale online right now. My problem is still estimating how much I will need... and what to apply underneath it...

Read through the technical datasheets. Everything should be detailed there.

Check the technical data sheet on the manufacturer’s website; it shows the consumption.

We are currently gaining experience with SoColor Sil In. The 0.14 l/m² (0.0058 gal/ft²) specified in the datasheet is pretty accurate. This amount provides a solid coat of paint. I wouldn’t be stingy with the paint application either, as otherwise you’ll end up with annoying shadows.

The premium version is more abrasion-resistant than the standard Sil In, which might not be necessary in all rooms. This way, you can still save some money.

What we have found is that paint abrasion itself is not the problem, but rather the abrasion caused by objects that come into contact with the wall—metal abrasion from ladders, for example, when they lean against the wall.
