kathi123Good evening!
We are currently renovating a house and moving into the lower of the two apartments. At the moment, the house is still in the shell stage, and some renovation work is taking place.
It looks like we will be able to start painting soon. We would like to do this before laying the flooring (light-colored parquet).
The area to be painted is approximately 220–230 sq m (2,370–2,475 sq ft) (estimated on the high side). Ceilings are included; doors and windows are not deducted. The basic plan is to paint everything white, with some walls painted in accent colors.
My main problem is: which paint and manufacturer should I choose? We care a lot about healthy indoor air quality, so preferably a paint that helps prevent moisture and mold growth.
For a long time, I have been considering lime paint, but I have read that it is not abrasion-resistant.
Maybe I can get some advice here before I make a purchase.
Thank you very much in advance!

If the walls are bare, I would sand them and paint directly. We are currently doing this with a dispersion silicate paint called Innostar from Keim. One coat covers well on gypsum plaster walls; for the drywall ceiling, we applied two coats to be safe.
Primed with Soliprim, also from Keim.
You can get it in color according to the color chart.
White costs about 120 EUR for a 12.5-liter (3.3-gallon) bucket, and a 20-liter (5.3-gallon) container of primer is around 100 EUR.
Consumption is 0.1 to 0.2 liters (0.03 to 0.07 gallons) per square meter (10.8 square feet).
For colored paint, depending on the hiding power, the consumption can be up to twice as much.

Preferably a bit cheaper as well.I was very satisfied with the silicate dispersion paint from Hornbach (store brand). A 25 l (6.6 gal) container costs around 100 EUR.kathi123 schrieb:
Do we absolutely need a primer under the paint? It depends on whether the plaster is new. If yes, then yes, a primer ensures even absorbency. Some people have also used a first coat of diluted paint instead of primer, which seems to work.
By the way, there are also abrasion-resistant lime paints, but I wouldn’t recommend them anymore. They are difficult to apply and tend to highlight every unevenness, as the lime particles accumulate irregularly.

xMisterDx21 Feb 2023 20:30The beauty lies in the first full coat of paint. Of course, I could use a paint from a general hardware store. But if you have to apply it twice at half the price... you don’t really save anything and just end up with more work 😉
You know, you often make good and valid points content-wise. However, the condescending way you present your choice as the only correct one unnecessarily undermines your contributions.
To the point:
1. One coat of paint was sufficient for me as well.
2. Regarding the prices, the factor is not 0.5 but almost 0.4.
3. Justifying an expensive purchase by disparaging everything cheaper is a typical pattern of cognitive dissonance.
But it’s your choice...
