SirSydomWe drilled and routed the slots and boxes for the electrical installations ourselves and installed part of the wiring. Qualification = none, instruction from a master electrician = neighbor. It definitely took more time, but it was also enjoyable. I’m not sure if we saved that much money by doing it ourselves. Otherwise, we will only do the painting and install the switches and outlets ourselves. The rest will probably be done by the tradespeople.
Painting and carpeting ... and landscaping. I would definitely do that again. I installed tiles in my old house without prior experience. As a meticulous woman, I brainstormed with everyone who seemed knowledgeable to me. The installation looked better afterwards than that of a professional, including surface treatment, but I would still advise against it because it affects your health (skin and back).
