We painted our carport. At first, I wanted to use a good wood stain to make sure the work wasn’t wasted. You can easily get caught out with paints and varnishes. So, I chose a well-known brand. Then I went to the hardware store. There, the same quantity was priced at less than half. Now you really wonder, am I crazy or what? What do you think?

You mean, all the same sauce?

I can only say this much. The prices for Consolan, for example, range from 45 for 5 liters (1.3 gallons) at a specialty store down to 27 for the same amount from a seller on the Amazon marketplace. Karsten

When it came to wall paint, I was initially quite shocked. Fortunately, I only spent 200€ (around $220) on it, but next time I’ll buy the cheap store-brand paint like a friend of mine did.

It costs less than half, the white looks the same, and the application is actually a bit better.

Before buying anything that needs to be spread again, I’ll make sure to research much more thoroughly.

But please don’t compare apples and oranges. When it comes to wall paint, the differences in price and quality are significant. If Lidl carries the paint from baufix, that one is usable. The low-price paint like Go On, for example, is also low quality. Caparol is overpriced. Those who have access to Sto basic, usually only through a professional painter, get good professional-grade products at a reasonable price. You can tell by the even application and good coverage.

The same applies to varnish. My father, a master painter by profession, painted some white surfaces for us. Years later, the finish still had gloss and remained white, not yellowed. A cabinet in the bathroom that I painted myself with a hardware store varnish, Renovo, has yellowed on the handle. Karsten
