Hello,
I am currently considering which built-in appliances should be planned for the new kitchen. I would like to use an oven, microwave, and steam oven.
The quickest solution would be three separate built-in appliances. However, there are also combined options available, naturally at a wide range of prices. So, what makes the most sense as individual appliance(s):
- Oven, microwave, and steam oven (3 appliances)
- Oven, microwave/steam oven (2 appliances)
- Oven/steam oven and microwave (2 appliances)
- Oven/microwave and steam oven (2 appliances)
- Oven/microwave/steam oven (1 appliance)
One appliance would probably be the space-saving and cost-effective option. However, you would need to carefully consider which food to heat and in which order inside the device. Space is not an issue. I was thinking about appliances from BSH (Bosch, Siemens, Constructa, etc.).

We also ordered two combination appliances: one oven/steam oven combo and one oven/microwave combo. I definitely wanted two appliances. There are many occasions when I miss having a second one. That sounds very practical to me as well. I often have the problem of not having enough appliances, and I think having these two combination units would provide excellent functionality. When we eventually renovate our kitchen, this will probably be our choice too.

Since I have two steam ovens in my kitchen, I use them both at the same time. Not that I missed it before – it’s just enjoyable, and I cook different combinations of dishes. The larger appliance is an oven with grill, top and bottom heat, convection, microwave, and can add steam for roasting, for example, but it is not a steam cooker. The smaller appliance has a full steam cooking function but no microwave. Below the smaller unit, there is also a warming drawer. The appliances have all sorts of other bells and whistles. Wonderful. By the way, defrosting works great with steam.
No one really needs it, to be honest – I just enjoy it.

No matter what you buy, I strongly advise against the "self-cleaning" coating (catalytic). The self-cleaning feature is a joke, but cleaning it by hand doesn’t work either because the coating is rough and gets damaged even with the slightest rubbing. A technician from Siemens customer service even said it doesn’t work and that many customers complain because their ovens look like they’re 10 years old after just six months. Either go for a standard coating and clean it yourself, or a pyrolytic cleaning function (which is not available from DGB).
So, the pyrolytic cleaning function in the oven works great with Miele.... (and yes, I am biased).
By the way, here’s why we have three separate appliances: that just happened to be the case, and yes, we sometimes need to use all three at the same time. Potatoes in the upper floor oven, meat in the main oven, and then something reheated separately in the microwave.
