I am currently considering which built-in appliances should be planned for the new kitchen. I would like to use an oven, microwave, and steam oven.
The quickest solution would be three separate built-in appliances. However, there are also combined options available, naturally at a wide range of prices. So, what makes the most sense as individual appliance(s):
- Oven, microwave, and steam oven (3 appliances)
- Oven, microwave/steam oven (2 appliances)
- Oven/steam oven and microwave (2 appliances)
- Oven/microwave and steam oven (2 appliances)
- Oven/microwave/steam oven (1 appliance)
One appliance would probably be the space-saving and cost-effective option. However, you would need to carefully consider which food to heat and in which order inside the device. Space is not an issue. I was thinking about appliances from BSH (Bosch, Siemens, Constructa, etc.).

A pure steam oven has very limited applications and is most comparable to steam inserts for pots. The better choice is a so-called combi steam oven, which combines a steam oven and a conventional oven. It offers the standard functions of both appliances, but what really makes it interesting is the ability to use both modes simultaneously. This allows you to prepare dishes in the same way professional kitchens do with combi ovens.
Together with an oven that also includes an integrated microwave, you then have all possible combinations of use available:

Insolator12 Jul 2020 19:15A device that does everything has its advantages. Lower initial cost for a single appliance, possibly cheaper cows as well, and if you want to combine baking, steaming, and microwaving, it’s really the only option.
However, the disadvantages should not be overlooked. If one function breaks, you have to consider whether repair is still feasible. Then all three functions might be out of order, possibly the most expensive version. If you want to replace it later, you’ll have to renew all three functions at once. Logistically, it’s a real challenge when you have a roast in the oven and want the steamed vegetables cooked and hot at the same time. There are situations where I would need two microwaves.
I imagine that a device combining all functions might also have a smaller usable capacity. It could be tight with a large roasting pan, a big family pizza, or a cake.
Therefore, I tend to prefer two or three separate appliances. But which combination?
