Hello,
For my garden area, I would like to install outdoor lights that brightly illuminate the trees upwards, etc. To avoid wiring my entire property—I don’t want to damage the lawn—I am looking for lights that operate independently from the house’s power sources. Is there perhaps a way to charge a battery using a solar panel, which would then power the light? I assume the light beam would probably be quite weak in that case. Are there other ideas or concepts in this direction...?

Best regards

Hello AJesse,
It is absolutely true that we are increasingly polluting the planet with light. That’s why I want to at least prevent the worst and find an energy-efficient solution for my outdoor lighting. Light in the garden also enhances the feeling of safety since it deters burglars.
So far, I have been laughed at for my solar power idea because the light output is supposedly too weak to illuminate anything. I had also already considered LEDs, the lighting technology of the future. Your post encourages me to keep thinking in that direction. Thank you very much. But I am still open to criticism and doubts as well 🙂
Greetings to all

@ ajesse:
Thanks for the important tip. I hadn’t considered the issue with the birds at all. Noted. I’m planning to go with a solar LED string light. I want to install it in the canopy. I’ve made up my mind about that. So far, I’ve only found ones with 24 LED lights. Of course, I also need the LED string light to be the right length. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

@ajesse: I completely overlooked the motion sensor. Of course, it should be included!!! Can it be connected to LED string lights if those are powered by solar energy? Or does it require a mains power supply of 230 V (230 V)? That wouldn’t be feasible then...
I want to create something environmentally friendly, and yet the industry doesn’t even provide a solution for that.

Apparently, you can combine LEDs and motion sensors. Here are two examples from the corresponding Google search results:
Solar LED floor lamp 75 cm (30 inches) with motion sensor & 2 W solar panel available from Westfalia Versand in the lamps and lighting section of their shop Technica
LED entrance light with IR motion sensor – alarm accessories

Motion sensors with "reasonable" voltage requirements: motion sensor, IR LX-910, 110-degree detection angle, 12 m (39 feet) range, 9-16 V / 28 V DC – alarm sensors
Here is a possible setup:
- 12-volt storage battery (model hobby accessories, completely maintenance-free lead battery)
- 12-volt solar charging station (solar panel and charge controller)
- Motion sensor
- Some simple logic to control the LED chain with the 28 V output
Nothing really complicated...

Get yourself some of these cheap solar-powered lamps. They really only provide a little light, but they are so inexpensive that it’s worth giving them a try.
