Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for a ceiling light with a motion sensor to install under our house entrance canopy.

We have had an electrical connection installed here (center of the canopy) and would like to install a lamp with a motion sensor.

It feels like there is absolutely NOTHING available on the market...

Has anyone had a similar experience and could share how they approached this?

We are looking for a square-shaped lamp in anthracite, but so far I can only find wall lights that are not suitable for ceiling installation.

Is there possibly a way to buy a lamp WITHOUT a motion sensor and control it separately?

Personally, I wouldn’t have done anything with the drywall. Especially because of the columns, I would highlight and illuminate the entrance area. I would probably install two outlets. The electricity costs for these small LEDs would be about $5 per year, assuming they are on for an average of 8 hours a day. But well, tastes vary, and that’s a good thing.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about continuous lighting... I’d find it a bit strange if it was constantly illuminated there—it makes everything feel so “open,” which is hard to describe.

The idea of using Philips HUE isn’t bad, though—it might be worth taking a closer look at.

However: If continuous power is used – this then needs to be controlled by a timer switch or something similar, right? So that the light turns on at dusk and off again? Do I also need to install something in between here? How could something like that work?

Yes, either with a timer or, more modern, via an app. The system knows when dusk occurs based on your location. You will need the appropriate light bulbs for this. The actual "technology" is built into the bulb itself, so it doesn’t light up despite having a continuous power supply.

You could also integrate a Shelly device into the switch, right?

I quickly picked out two lamps with motion sensors that could possibly be installed upstairs. 😉
