But in a hallway that is 1m (3.3 feet) wide, with a door probably having a clear opening width of 87cm (34 inches)... You end up uncomfortably close to every visitor when you open the door for them.

You mean the lower hallway, right?

I think Bauexperte—and I as well—were referring to the upper hallway.

You are right, the entrance area is far too narrow!

Sure,

I find the lower area extremely uncomfortable.
The upper floor is no problem, who needs more space anyway? That's actually a common issue with straight staircases, where the hallway has to be very long (and large).

I would extend the projection/bay window of the living room further outward to create a covered terrace on the left side. As it is now, the projection serves no real purpose (other than a questionable aesthetic one).

Also, setting aside the other points already mentioned, I need to comment again on the upstairs bedroom. At this size, it will be a very tight, small space. Yes, "we only want to use it for sleeping," but in my opinion, it won’t work as a living area or a room you might want to retreat to. A bed is usually about 2.20 m long (7 feet 3 inches). So you expect to be constantly squeezing around in there, in a new house where you can choose the layout yourself?

We have now found the floor plans that suit us and will review them with our architect on Monday. They basically include everything we want. Maybe you have a few comments on them as well.

Attic plan: corridor, master bedroom, two children’s rooms, bathroom; 59.00 m² (635 sq ft).

Ground floor: open living/dining area, kitchen, hallway, stairs, cloakroom, WC, utility room

What is your architect’s role? Is it just to approve your floor plan, wherever you got it from? Are they only supposed to create the drawings, period? Or do you have an architect for free, at no cost, complimentary?
