Hello everyone,

We are planning a straight stringer staircase in our house that will cover a height of 250 cm (98 inches) from the ground floor to the upper floor.

Our architect has planned an opening in the ceiling of 330 cm (130 inches) for this.

Now my question:
How large/long should this opening be to ensure the staircase is comfortable and easy to use?

We have a step height of 18cm (7 inches) and 17 steps. This covers a floor height of 306cm (10 ft), including the upper floor ceiling (2.70m (8 ft 10 in) room height + 36cm (14 inches) upper floor ceiling). Our staircase is about 4.30m (14 ft) long and comfortable to use; I wouldn’t make it steeper. Yours seems too short to me, your rooms are only 20cm (8 inches) lower.

Best regards
