Hello everyone,

I am currently setting up our granny flat. I am wondering where the dining table (for 4 people) can be placed without blocking the walkways to the kitchen and the path to the balcony. The large tilt-and-slide door has a stop on the right, so it opens to the left. A fireplace has been prepared in the niche next to the sofa, but it is not planned to be installed within the next five years.

Floor plan of a building with walls, doors, dimensions, and labels.

From a planning perspective, we have already arranged the TV corner, as it seems to make the most sense in that spot in my opinion. However, I am open to suggestions here as well. Here is an initial draft created with the planner homebyme:

Open living and dining area with wooden floor, dining table, chairs, black shelf, and a person.

I haven’t really found a suitable position for the dining table that I’m fully happy with.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Since the sliding door is 4 meters (13 feet) wide, the right section of 2 meters (6.5 feet) is more than enough for a dining table for 3 to 4 people. So, place the light outlet centered on the right window section and about 1 meter (3.3 feet) into the room.
Let go of the idea that you have to get it perfectly right.

No, I won’t get it perfect. We have a nice view of the garden, so the large sliding door was important to us. We’ll just get a table and then see where it fits best. For us, a large bathroom and a study room were priorities. With a bit more optimization, maybe more would have been possible, but this is how it is now.

You won’t find the exact position. Roughly, my own plan would be 1 meter (3 feet) from the window and 1 meter (3 feet) from the half-height wall of the kitchen.
I agree with that, and if the tenants want the table somewhere else, then there will simply be a visible cable run or a power track on the ceiling. No problem.
