ᐅ Optimal finished floor height relative to the street level

Hi,

We received our building permit / planning permission two weeks ago. It includes a recommendation to raise the house by an additional 25 cm (10 inches), but this is only a suggestion. However, it is a bit unsettling. Currently, the plan is for the finished floor level to be 15 cm (6 inches) higher than the street level. I actually thought this would be enough. The street is about 10 m (33 feet) away and slopes down towards the opposite side of the street.

What do you think about this?

The architect (at least most of them) doesn’t care about THAT.

That's exactly how it is 🙂 I also need to think about it again. The good thing is that I basically only have one neighbor, and our house is at the beginning of the street, so the 3% slope and the dead-end road would make it more manageable if the neighbors to the south use the full 50cm (20 inches)... To the west, it could be worst-case 35cm (14 inches) to the neighbor... tough...

L-shaped retaining walls also look awful and of course cost a lot again ^^

Make sure to discuss the boundary design with your neighbor. I did this myself, and we agreed on a shared boundary design. I had the combined soil removed, and in return, he installed fairly tall L-shaped retaining walls. The remaining part of the boundary will be planted together soon.

Could you send me a private message? Unfortunately, I don’t have enough posts to do that yet.

You can mention your email addresses under "Information" in your profile – like I do – so that it’s not easy for spambots to find them.

I am fully aware of that 😉. If I had wanted to, I would have done it. I don’t see any reason to switch to private chat here 😎
