Hello everyone,
We are planning to build a single-family house with two full floors and a gable roof (22°) without eaves.
The following considerations are on the table:
(1) Light gray smooth roof tiles and light gray wood-aluminum windows: This is a safe choice. However, it naturally looks like the usual standard design.
(2) Red smooth roof tiles and wooden windows (possibly oak?): This option appeals to us visually the most, but we are concerned that wooden windows might lose their color and turn gray after just a few years. Does anyone have experience with this?
(3) Red smooth roof tiles and wood-aluminum windows: In this case, we have the problem that we do not want gray windows with a red roof, as we don’t like that combination. Our question to you: Has anyone found a great RAL color that works well with red roof tiles?
We realize this is ultimately a matter of personal taste but are hoping for some input from you.

That is why my original question was whether anyone knows a color shade (perhaps beige, bronze, or similar) that complements red bricks.White works well, and even the classic, now often criticized anthracite is also suitable. If you choose color, I would apply it not on the frame but on the reveals.wiltshire schrieb:
In the House Photo Exchange thread, you can find the very successful facade by @Climbee on page 1398 – good suggestion, @11ant! Thanks for adding that. The thread 14011 has become too confusing for me a long time ago; I wouldn’t have wanted to quickly search page 1398 just now.

White coordinates well, and the classic anthracite, which is nowadays often criticized, also works. If you choose a color, I would apply it not on the frame but on the trim. Trim and cladding would also make a nice combination. About the still popular color tone, I always say “Seventysixteen is the new Zeroeightfifteen.” When cladding, you could also stain some of the narrower boards in a slightly different shade, like the “black keys of a piano.”

I believe it’s important to take the time needed to make a well-considered decision. During our discussions, I repeatedly heard all kinds of arguments against ideas that differ from the usual. I often spoke with people who said how boring they find the black-and-white houses in residential areas, only to then build their own house exactly the same way, in black and white. Go figure.
I heard similar comments about the number and size of windows, which are supposedly difficult to clean, or that strong-colored rendering would fade, be too expensive, and so on. Then I would stand in front of their house with plain white rendering and notice early stains on the surface, wondering what was so much more sensible about that choice.
I have always liked to be a bit bold and might have chosen a really rich wine-red or something similar for our rendering, combined with some wood accents, fully aware that people would probably call that unreasonable afterward. But I think it’s nice. And I enjoy driving home past the endless metal fences in front of white-and-black houses.
@Salvator2025 Maybe you’d like to share your thoughts and perhaps some pictures in the forum. From my experience, good results can be achieved when people are given enough input and involved. In the end, you can still do whatever you prefer, because ultimately, that’s what matters.

Attached are the images of the design.A higher resolution would be appreciated. How finalized is the planning, and what motivates you to use consistent 24cm (10 inches) interior walls throughout?https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

There will be no more changes as we are satisfied with it. Since we are building the entire house with hollow bricks (due to future disposal concerns), we decided on 24cm (9.5 inches) bricks mainly for sound insulation (between rooms) and for greater flexibility in future modifications (mounting on walls). All contractors and masons from our private network have also recommended this choice.S

Maybe you’d like to share your thoughts and possibly some pictures with the forum.Actually, I don’t have much more to add beyond what I wrote in my initial question. Basically, we like a “clean” look but don’t want the typical black-and-white appearance common in many new housing developments. That’s why we might choose light gray for the roof and windows, combined with a wooden front door and a wooden garage door to add some “warmth” to the overall look. (Attached is an inspiration image)
Alternatively, we would consider a red roof with wooden windows and a white facade. (Also attached is an inspiration image, but in this case, we would leave out the wooden cladding)
