Hello everyone,

We are considering which flooring to install in the living, dining, and kitchen areas. The main focus is on the appearance, not the material. There have already been some discussions about the materials (hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tiles). So far, the idea is for the living and dining areas to have a floor with an oak look. In the kitchen, the flooring should be dark gray.

The other option would be to have the entire area covered with the same oak-look flooring.

The kitchen itself will have white or very slightly grayish cabinets and dark gray countertops.

Please see the color-coded floor plans. What are your opinions? Thank you very much.

Where is the question?

The question is whether the kitchen should have the same flooring or if a different floor covering should be installed there. See sketches. And because the kitchen peninsula would then be located at the joint between the two floor coverings.
As mentioned before, I am interested in opinions on this. Or maybe someone has suitable pictures. Either continuous flooring or two different floor coverings.

Regarding the issue with the two floors, I have posted the link to the other discussion where there are opinions on this. Have you already taken a look?

Yes, I have looked at it by now. The kitchen area is more open there, while mine is somewhat more separated because the kitchen is around the corner. But having a continuous flooring seems to be a good solution. I will need to consider that when planning the floor coverings. Thanks.

We decided to use a uniform flooring. The reason is that at the transitions (depending on the chosen material), a small gap often develops over time. Dirt tends to collect there. Personally, it annoys me even if it’s just a little. Also, it always looks somewhat cut off to me. Especially in your case, I imagine it would look strange if, right from the island, there suddenly were tiles or wood in a different color.

The kitchen is open and part of the living area, so it makes sense to give it the same look.

We are installing slightly grayish laminate everywhere. The kitchen fronts are eggshell-colored. The decorative cushions on the couch are the same. Then a few color accents will be added, and voilà.
