Good evening,

our detached house will have a Hörmann sectional door LPU42 installed, along with a Berner GA203 operator and 2 remote controls.

What is the most elegant way to install a switch for the door inside the hallway? I am thinking of a simple up/down switch that I can operate when leaving the house (yes, I know the remote would work as well, but I prefer a more “stylish” solution).

On Berner’s website, I only find the remote controls listed as accessories.

It seems to be a wireless indoor push button. However, I can’t quite figure out how it is configured. Does anyone happen to know if it can be paired as easily as a remote?

That would probably also be a more cost-effective solution than running a cable from the operator into the house...

Thanks in advance!

Best regards, Elias

If you know how to solder and the distance between the gate and the push button isn’t too long, I would recommend opening the remote control and soldering wires to the push button contacts. Then, buy a standard push button from your switch range, connect it to the two wires, and install everything inside a flush-mounted box.

The position of the switch should be carefully chosen to avoid accidental activation (children, visitors, confusion, etc.).

If you’re not comfortable with the idea of “hacking” the remote control, you can also purchase a wireless transmitter and receiver independently of the gate’s remote control. There are two options:

1.) A transmitter in a flush-mounted housing with a push button and a suitable receiver connected directly to the gate’s drive unit. There should be terminals where you can connect an open/close control signal.
2.) With some luck, the transmitter’s signal matches the gate receiver, allowing you to pair your gate with the transmitter. They all operate on the same frequency (868.3 MHz). Take a look at ELDAT for examples.

Hi Philipp, thanks a lot! This definitely helps me understand things better. I can’t solder (yet), but maybe this is a good opportunity to learn 🙂

To be honest, I can’t imagine a gate operator that can be controlled ONLY by radio commands (it would have to be really cheap, probably something very low quality).

There are push buttons for indoor use, fingerprint scanning systems, and transponder switches from Berner…
(Okay, they wouldn’t win any design awards… but I would probably try to “hide” them anyway)

Thank you all. I will take some time to read up on this. It seems like there are plenty of options!
