Hello everyone,

Here is the situation:
We have started extension and renovation work on two sides of our house.

Extension 1 (north side) is a masonry construction and is practically finished. Among other things, the windows have been installed, which have an outer reveal of 7cm (approximately 3 inches) measured from the roller shutter guide rail. This was planned accordingly and we are happy with it.

For Extension 2 (timber construction, southeast side), we ordered windows from the same supplier, which were recently delivered and installed. Now we have noticed that these windows were installed flush with the exterior facade (so no reveal). A subsequent review of the offer showed that the width of the roller shutter box was incorrectly specified, so installation with the corresponding reveal was not possible without adding an internal build-up (battens). Neither we nor our architect (who checks the offers before signing) noticed this. I must say that from my point of view the offer was unclear/misleading because this measurement was not clearly visible:
- The dimension was given without a drawing, and instead of the usual(?) width x height format, height x width was used.
- You can deduce the width only by referring to the dimension of the height from another view (on a different page).

In principle, I believe that as a customer you should be able to assume that a specialist company supplying windows for a house (e.g., two separate offers at different times) will prepare the offers in such a way that a non-expert (like us) can expect the windows to be installed consistently (so that we see identical exterior reveals).

What do you think?
Is there room for negotiation? Or is the contract absolute, even if it is unclearly formulated/presented and not in accordance with the windows already installed on Extension 1?

Regards,
Chris
