Hello everyone,

Today we received a quote from a structural engineer with the following items:

Thermal insulation verification according to the 2016 Energy Saving Ordinance
€1100.00

Structural stability verification according to HOAI fee zone 2, three-quarter rate
€3400 - 10% discount = €3060

Optional reinforcement plans including steel lists and certification according to NBVO
€1500

Net total €5660
VAT €1075.40
---------------------------
Gross total €6735.40

Are these prices reasonable for the scope of work, or would you recommend contacting additional structural engineers?

Thanks in advance

It is always surprising that, even in the current market situation, properties are sold for so much less than their value... About one third of the minimum price. Well... That’s good for the builder.

So, a good price?

If I tell you now what our structural engineer charged us for the architect’s work on structural design, thermal insulation verification, KfW support, and certification, I think everyone here will be amazed.

Just a quick, maybe silly question. Why is your structural engineer handling the thermal performance certification?

Structural engineering is about structural integrity, while thermal protection is related to insulation or the facade contractor, or sometimes the energy consultant, right?

Our structural engineer cost €2400 gross for about 1000 cubic meters (35,300 cubic feet) of volume, with quite a few complex details in the construction project.

An expert said that typically, the structural engineering would cost about three times that amount. We got a good price because the engineer has worked with our architectural firm for a long time. So I would also recommend going with the structural engineer your architect has worked with before. That way, things can also move quickly through informal channels...

Static calculations were included in the structural shell work tender, costing €1,000 net.
The most expensive one was €1,600.
