Hello dear community,
We are currently in the middle of building our house and wanted to keep our old water meter pit (built around 1950?), which has now been partly damaged by a truck during construction.
Today, I received a compensation offer for the installation of a new pit:
"Remove and dispose of the existing masonry pit. Supply and install a new pit made of 2 concrete rings with an internal diameter of 1000 mm (39 inches), including a ladder, one cone, and a cover, load-bearing up to 1.5 tons. Construct the pit floor from concrete."
for €620 gross.
How much do you think we will save considering the damage? Is the offer reasonable?
Thanks and have a great weekend

Interesting, I didn’t know that either.
The prices seem more like deterrent offers – the new connection through our 40m (130 feet) driveway cost us 2400 € – but well, who knows what all is necessary there.
Back to the topic: you get 2 rings and accessories for 620 € gross because the truck crushed the thing? It’s unclear whether that’s acceptable, or if they should actually replace it completely... is there something like current value compensation?
On the other hand, 620 € isn’t a huge amount, and a legal dispute would take time and be stressful.
