Hello everyone,
I have a staircase made of oak (factory oiled).
Now I want to re-oil it occasionally.
QUESTION:
Which oil (type + brand) have you used?
Thank you for your answers.
Best regards

At the time, our staircase builder gave us a bottle of oil (without a label), but you can basically use any wood oil from a hardware store. We chose Clou hardwax oil.

I would use Leinos or Osmo hard wax oil.

I am considering linseed oil (varnish). I am worried that hard wax might alter the color. What has been your experience?

It does no more and no less than oil itself. The color changes when color pigments are added to the oil.

We oiled all our bathroom shelf boards over the weekend using PurSolid hard oil from Auro. It is normally used for floors but should also be suitable for stair treads. In general, you can probably use any oil, whether 100% natural or not.
