Hello everyone, I have a somewhat unusual question, but I just noticed the following. In our nearly 30-year-old house (bought 3 years ago), I found a strange "bump" on a roof beam that is supposed to be sanded smooth. At first, I thought an insect had nested there or tried to build a nest, but the bump is entirely wooden and is part of the beam itself. So why does it protrude like that instead of being smoothly sanded? I took some photos. It doesn’t sound hollow or anything like that. The beam also looks solid. Maybe it’s a knot or a branch that wasn’t completely sanded down.

I have now cut off the nose with a carpet knife. It went very easily, so it wasn’t a branch. However, it looks fairly normal underneath. It’s just the untreated wood now. Should I apply a clear finish indoors, or can I leave it as it is?

I think you have a Baba Yaga house, and this is where the first step forms. So not cutting it off might hurt it.

I guess it will be resin. Inside, you don’t need to do anything with the wood.
