I am currently in discussions with general contractors and starting the building planning process. One of the most important aspects for us is the orientation of the house.
Our preference is to orient the house towards the back of the plot, meaning a wide window front with views from the living room, kitchen, dining area, etc.
Our plot faces northwest. I am attaching a screenshot from Google Maps. The red arrow indicates the north direction.
Do you have any tips or ideas on how we can find a good compromise and possibly get some architectural help? I want to avoid having the main orientation facing the neighbors.
Thank you very much!

There are online tools that can show you the sun path using maps. What about the tree coverage? Can you display the property with its boundaries, and does the building belong to it?
How is the access supposed to be arranged, and where is the connection to the infrastructure?

How is the driveway going to be arranged / where is the connection to the infrastructure? bauenmk2020 – thank you for your feedback. Attached you will find the site development plan for the property.
- The building and almost all trees will be completely removed or cleared to carry out the new construction. Only the three protected trees at the top will be preserved, and we will replace the tree at the lower left.
- At the bottom edge of the image is the access road.
- I am planning to place the double garage to the right of the building area.
- Water connection will be at the lower right edge of the building area; electricity will come from the street side.
- The view of the site plan is similar to the Google Maps screenshot. My goal is to focus the main garden area above the building plot, although according to the GMaps marker it is roughly located to the northwest.
I look forward to your suggestions! Thank you.

…
Could it be that you already posted your site plan in another forum but with a different question??? 😉

I want to avoid the main orientation facing the neighbors. What exactly do you mean by that? Are you worried that the neighbors might be able to see into your living room? Or is it about the terrace? Or both? Which rooms in the neighbors’ house are positioned in a way that they can easily look into your property? There are several options: fewer windows, hedges, landscaping changes, privacy fences, and so on. Of course, all of these will have some impact on the floor plan, which also needs to be compatible with your other wishes (for example, a large window front in the living room).
