Hello everyone,

We bought a relatively new house at the end of 2019 (built in 2017).
The house is a prefabricated home, and the warranty for it expires this year.
Unfortunately, we have discovered several defects after purchasing the house (e.g., leaking gutters, doors not closing properly, etc.).
Since these are minor issues, I haven’t taken any further action yet, other than contacting the construction company, which has addressed most of the problems.
Due to the current economic situation, I’ve been working from home in my new room for the past few days. Unfortunately, I was alarmed to hear noises coming from the wooden wall when the first rays of sunshine hit (my room has a sloped roof).
On the windowsill, there was a half-dismembered bug and a yellow “something” (see picture).
Today, two days later, the noise was still audible, although the sun was already gone.
I thought maybe a bug got trapped in the beams?

--> I also recorded a video with the sound, but unfortunately, I can’t upload it here.

Can anyone help me? Does anyone have experience with this?

I really hope for your assistance!

Thanks and best regards,
minuk

Oh? Less than 5 years according to the building code?

I can’t make out much from the photo.
But it’s possible you have guests in the roof, for example a nest of some beetle species or wasps?
I’m not sure if the latter (wasps) is likely, but basically it’s possible that something nested behind the wood over the winter and is now becoming active again.
However, this would be your issue alone and not the builder’s responsibility.
Regarding other defects: doors can warp over time or gutters may start leaking. Also check the brackets and maintenance joints. None of this is covered under warranty.

I would also consider it a beetle, and the yellow "something" as insulation material that it probably couldn't digest as well as expected. It likely fell down—I suspect from under the roof overhang (eaves)? The root cause might be an unsealed access to a nesting site, which could be seen as a defect, yes, but in the end, the pest control professional will probably be your best option.

The cause might be an unsecured access to a nesting spot, which is a defect, yes, but the pest control technician will probably be your final relief.

Thank you very much for the response! Attached is another picture. The construction company recently sealed this gap at the edge of the house at our request.
Additionally, there were similar gaps at other points on the roof. This was considered a "cosmetic defect," left as is since 2017, and now sealed due to our purchase.

Thanks for the reply,

I haven’t seen any wasps; I’m leaning more towards beetles. I posted pictures of the roof edge below. Maybe the access door comes from there...

We also now have a problem with the indoor humidity in our house. It’s around 20% - 26%, even though we ventilate regularly. Usually, 40-50% is considered good. We’ve tried humidifiers and hanging laundry inside. It helps slightly. I even have four plants in my room...

Is this normal? Do you have experience with this?

Thanks and best regards

Yes, June beetle.
No, no idea. I think they’re usually found more in the soil.
