When I asked the electrician where the doorbell and chime were planned to be installed, we were told, "You wanted to install the doorbell yourself, so we didn’t include anything." I was completely surprised by this. According to the scope of work, a simple doorbell recess and chime are included as part of the contract.
I had requested an additional cable to be installed for a future porch (doorbell, LAN, power). They apparently just assumed, "Great, the homeowner will take care of it themselves, so we don’t need to install a doorbell." But the porch is going to be built later, and in the meantime, our visitors are supposed to knock at the door (in a new house!)???!!
Now, since the house is almost ready for handover and basically finished, we are being offered a wireless doorbell as a replacement!
My questions:
1:
Would you accept a battery-powered doorbell/chime in a new build?
2:
What options are there for a wired system? The interior walls have already been plastered.
3:
Would it be possible to install a doorbell button outside and then place a transformer in a flush-mounted box indoors (power could be taken from an internal socket)?

knalltüte10 Aug 2020 12:52It seems to be just a temporary solution until the porch roof is installed?
In that case, a wireless doorbell wouldn’t be an issue.
As a permanent solution, wireless would not work for me.

If that is the case, then install it in a narrow cable duct leading to the location where you plan to place the doorbell button now.

I consider a wireless doorbell to be acceptable. However, that is your personal opinion, which the electrician cannot be expected to assume.https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

A wireless doorbell would not be a problem initially. However, the "replacement," meaning the bell and chime, should be battery-powered. After all, in a new build, you wouldn't want to be constantly reminded to change the batteries in the chime or doorbell, right?
