ᐅ No construction company can be found that...

Hello,

Our search for a turnkey construction company in the greater Cologne area has proven to be very difficult. It’s not that there are no providers, but those we have found so far do not meet our expectations and do not deviate from their standard services.

The main issue is that all of them work exclusively with aerated concrete blocks.
However, we want a traditional wall made of calcium silicate bricks + insulation + facing bricks.
The reasons are sound insulation, the practical handling of hanging objects, and indoor climate.
Can anyone recommend a company for postal code area 50 that also builds with calcium silicate bricks and offers custom planning?

THANK YOU

Hello,

Well, if there were an aerated concrete block that would prevent me from hearing bathroom visits through normal interior wall thicknesses or allow proper wall mounting, then I would reconsider.
I already mentioned that every block has its advantages and disadvantages. Just as sound insulation with 36.5cm (14 inches) thickness or more does not matter, starting at 17.5cm (7 inches) it becomes really poor ... especially on upper floors or attics. That’s why many suppliers now install lightweight partition walls in attics, which are, by the way, better than their reputation; drywall panels are also suitable. Aerated concrete does not tolerate mixing with calcium silicate blocks.

Also, calcium silicate blocks supposedly have good thermal storage properties.
According to whom?

Thermal insulation[B]:

The thermal insulating properties are poor. Thermal conductivity varies between 0.5 and 1.3 W/mK depending on the bulk density.

and in summer rather cooling effects.
This statement is correct.

Have you ever put a piece of calcium silicate block into a tub of water? It is true that the capillarity of calcium silicate blocks is rather low; however, it still absorbs water when, for example, bricks no longer take up any. So maybe hollow bricks are your first choice after all?

See xxx.kalksandstein.de section "Benefits of sand-lime brick"

Anyway, I think the matter is settled for me... Sand-lime brick with insulation and brick veneer it will be. Since insulation is planned anyway, heat loss and the like are not an issue, and KfW 70 standard should be achievable with this, assuming everything else is done properly.

Hello,

Either way, I think the topic is settled for me... It will be sand-lime brick with insulation and facing brick. Because of the planned insulation anyway, thermal bridging etc. won’t be an issue, and KfW 70 energy standard should be achievable with that, assuming everything else is in order, of course.

It’s all a matter of the overall configuration and, as always, also a matter of personal preferences and costs.

As I mentioned at the beginning, my offer still stands; you can find my contact details in my signature.

As mentioned earlier: If the building is going to be faced with brick anyway, there is, in my opinion, no question about it. Calcium silicate brick is certainly better than aerated concrete when it comes to practical properties such as sound insulation and fixing capability. Especially in the area of load-bearing exterior walls, there are countless companies that essentially work exclusively with calcium silicate brick, so the original statement surprises me.

Good luck
