Hello, next year I am building a KW40 solid construction house that includes a Milan ventilation system with heat recovery.

Now I would like to ask about your experiences with it.

I am somewhat concerned about dry air—do you have any insights or practical experiences?

Thank you very much

I only read that the moisture recovery cannot be regulated, meaning the system always releases the same amount. Could this lead to excessively high indoor humidity?

No, part of the moisture is recovered from the exhaust air. The heat exchanger consists of a membrane that allows water molecules to pass through. If there is a moisture gradient between the exhaust air and the fresh air, it is balanced (to a certain extent) through the membrane.

I’m not sure that is always the case. The difference lies only in the heat exchanger (I believe an enthalpy heat exchanger is now practically standard). A mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery costs around 10,000 to 15,000 Euros for a house, whether with or without moisture recovery. The actual price depends on several factors. If you choose a system with moisture recovery from the start, the additional cost might even be zero :P?

As mycraft has pointed out several times, with a mechanical ventilation system without humidity recovery, the air inside the house becomes very dry.

In winter, we experience indoor humidity levels between 20% and 22%, which is quite low.

And do you want to change anything about it, Master Cookie?

Hi, definitely build with a controlled residential ventilation system. We have already prepared several expert reports concerning mold that developed due to the absence of a controlled residential ventilation system. New buildings are simply too airtight, and relying on natural ventilation is not always reliable.

Yes, I am also building with the system. I am just not sure whether it will include a heat recovery ventilation system with moisture recovery.

As far as I know, it is not possible to retrofit an enthalpy exchanger to the system. So, we have to live with it.
