Hello everyone,

About 1 1/2 years ago, we had new PVC windows installed by Aldra (white on the inside and anthracite on the outside, P4A burglar-resistant glass) in a 40-year-old house.
A few days ago, a crack appeared without any external impact in the fixed panoramic glass, starting diagonally from the lower left frame upwards to the right.

My questions to the experts:

1. What could be the possible causes of the glass breakage?

2. What should I consider to prevent such damage in the future?

3. How much might the repair or damage compensation cost?

Thank you for your answers

View through glass window onto balcony with dark wooden railing; houses, tree, tiled floor.

View through window onto suburb: red roofs, bare trees, blue sky; bright arc in the sky.

Claiming a defect with the window manufacturer.

It is important that there was nothing in front of the window that could have caused uneven heating of the glass.

Otherwise, report it to your insurance as glass breakage.

Heat or cold

Probably nothing. It looks more like faulty material or installation.

Thanks for your answers
Typical warranty claim or insurance case. So, no cost at all.

Report glass insurance claims! These kinds of damages are frustrating and can be insured for a very low cost!

I just noticed an identical-looking damage on a new pane. Temperature change – my kids had placed anthracite-colored cushions against the glass. This often happens with new triple-glazed windows.

No issues with the glass insurance. However, the glazier has a four-week lead time.

In this case, based on the thread history of the original poster, I "would not rule that out" ;-)
