ᐅ New Single-Family House Construction (KFW70) / Aerated Concrete vs. Sand-Lime Brick / Which Material to Choose?

Hi everyone,

We are planning to build with a general contractor and have collected some offers. Some use aerated concrete, others use calcium silicate bricks. Some combine the two, using aerated concrete for the exterior walls and calcium silicate bricks on the inside.

What would you recommend? Is this combination of aerated concrete on the outside and calcium silicate bricks on the inside common and preferable?
Should we be concerned about cracks due to the different expansion properties of the two materials, or is this not an issue with proper construction?

What would you currently choose to build with or have built—what is your preferred building material?

Thank you in advance,
Lacos

I created an Excel file that generates a similar curve, which I believe is more practical.

I would have liked to upload the xls file, but unfortunately, that is not allowed, so I’m sharing it as a zip file instead.

Please read the previous posts!

Kind regards.

This especially applies to you. Honestly, I’m getting really frustrated! Read my questions about the diagram first, and then respond accordingly—instead of just telling someone to read the earlier posts.

And seriously, how much do you think of us when you say that with so many inquiries you’re already referring customers to competitors?

You’re really a joke.

Hello everyone,

to get back to the main topic. I discussed with my general contractor that uniformly calcium silicate bricks will be used.
I hope that was the right decision.

Basically not a bad decision, cost-effective inner wall with high thermal mass and sound insulation! Insufficient thermal insulation can be compensated by an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS).

Best regards.

Thank you again for the comments and the confirmation regarding the sand-lime brick.
The house will be built as a KfW 70 single-family home (walls made of sand-lime brick, exterior clad with facing brick).

I believe you will not regret that! Especially the outer layer will significantly contribute to protection against summer heat! You will be able to do without using technical cooling during the hot summer period, as well as without a cooling function, if the heat generator is a heat pump! If you also approach the building services thoughtfully, I have no concerns about the project's economic efficiency! Good luck!
