Hello everyone,
I would like to redesign my outdoor staircase. My first idea was to use granite. However, the initial rough cost estimates are quite high, and I’m wondering if there might be alternatives I haven’t considered yet. We would like a dark stone, somewhere around anthracite, with a slightly rough texture and, if possible, low maintenance. Are there any other materials or options that come to your mind for designing the staircase? Thanks

Mossy concrete steps lead to the front door; planter boxes and bushes line the stairs.

Granite stones, size 17/19. In between, standard anthracite-colored paving stones.
The anthracite paving stones cost 10€/sqm (10€/sq ft) in the standard version. Paving bricks look more premium and cost 30€/sqm (30€/sq ft).
Outside, granite bollards could also be installed. The bollards measure 12 x 12 cm (5 x 5 inches). The price is about 10€/piece.

Ok, thanks for the idea. I will take a closer look at it.

Cleaning would work wonders if done by a company specialized in it; you would be surprised how nice it would look again.

Otherwise, doesn’t the stepping pattern bother you? One step, then two steps back to a step?

We took over the house earlier this year, and I don’t find these exposed aggregate concrete slabs very attractive, even if they were professionally cleaned.
I agree that the arrangement of the steps isn’t ideal either. That would also be something to consider addressing, as long as it’s not too complicated.
A few days ago, I spoke with a construction company that wanted to take a look; maybe the layout could be improved.

Our staircase is similar in size and length. We had it concreted, and the granite will finally be installed in the next few weeks. For a staircase of this size, you can easily expect to pay 15-18 euros if you have it done professionally.
