Hello everyone!
To realize the ideal layout of our new kitchen, we need to relocate the water supply and drainage pipes by about 2m (6.5 feet). The appointment with the plumber is already scheduled, but I would like to review everything in advance to avoid any misunderstandings later on.
Key details:
- The pipes need to be surface-mounted and rerouted about 2m (6.5 feet) around the corner to the left (see the “Floor Plan” image)
- The distance to the wall (outer measurement, including the piping) must not exceed 8cm (3 inches), as the kitchen depth can only exceed by a maximum of 9cm (3.5 inches)
- The electrical outlet located to the left of the current water connection should remain accessible (as it is separately fused and intended for the dishwasher)
In my vision, it might look similar to the “Water Pipes Sketch” image.
The angle valves would be removed and repositioned. The hot water supply line (H) and the drain pipe (D) would need to be shortened toward the floor drain. At the bottom, the hot water line would run (yellow), above it the cold water line (blue), and the drain pipe (green) in the middle with a slope.
Here are a few questions I have:
- Do you think this plan is feasible, or is there anything that would speak against it?
- The new cold water line would run above the electrical outlet. I assume that should be okay?
- The new position of the angle valves would be about 25cm (10 inches) to the right of the stove’s high-voltage connection. Would that be a problem?
Thank you in advance for your feedback!
Best regards

hanghaus202316 Jul 2024 12:40I am curious to see the plan from the kitchen studio. Where will the dishwasher be placed? The shut-off and measuring devices must be kept accessible.
The dishwasher will be located to the right of the sink, directly next to the new water connection. The new water pipe runs behind it, which should not be a problem due to the excess length.
The angle valves should be removed from their current position, the water pipe extended, and then reinstalled in the new location under the sink. They will then be accessible inside the right kitchen cabinet below the sink in case the water needs to be shut off.
The shut-off and measuring device will be positioned exactly in the center behind the left of the three 50cm (20 inches) cabinets. The drawers can be removed here so that the water levels can be read or the water can be turned off.

hanghaus202316 Jul 2024 13:03OK. Thanks, I understand it so far. Visually, I don’t find it appealing to have it only half-height. I would rather build it up to the windowsill height and then install a deeper shelf that extends beyond the second kitchen counter as a sort of shelving unit.

You should have the kitchen studio create a visualization of this.
Without wall cabinets?

I think the overall appearance is a matter of personal taste. We also initially considered extending it all the way up, but in the example image from the kitchen manufacturer, the half-height option looked very subtle, so at the moment we are leaning more in that direction.
Recessed wall cabinets are installed above the 50cm (20 inch) cabinets, but I left them out of the drawing since they don’t affect the plumbing. A visualization already exists, but it is only in the hands of the kitchen manufacturer (kitchen studios including furniture stores are very strict about this; visualizations are not released before the order is finalized).
Do you think the sketched plumbing installation would be feasible from your perspective?
I assume a plumber can simply shorten an existing pipe? (This would be necessary for the hot water line.)

My suggestion... place the two tall cabinets side by side, with the refrigerator first, then the special cabinet containing the dishwasher at the bottom and the oven above. Then, toward the window, have the base cabinets with wall cabinets above.
With a maximum width of 290 cm (approximately 114 inches), the two towers on the right and left with the relatively narrow gap between them look a bit strange. So, definitely have it visualized first.
