Hello everyone!
To realize the ideal layout of our new kitchen, we need to relocate the water supply and drainage pipes by about 2m (6.5 feet). The appointment with the plumber is already scheduled, but I would like to review everything in advance to avoid any misunderstandings later on.
Key details:
- The pipes need to be surface-mounted and rerouted about 2m (6.5 feet) around the corner to the left (see the “Floor Plan” image)
- The distance to the wall (outer measurement, including the piping) must not exceed 8cm (3 inches), as the kitchen depth can only exceed by a maximum of 9cm (3.5 inches)
- The electrical outlet located to the left of the current water connection should remain accessible (as it is separately fused and intended for the dishwasher)
In my vision, it might look similar to the “Water Pipes Sketch” image.
The angle valves would be removed and repositioned. The hot water supply line (H) and the drain pipe (D) would need to be shortened toward the floor drain. At the bottom, the hot water line would run (yellow), above it the cold water line (blue), and the drain pipe (green) in the middle with a slope.
Here are a few questions I have:
- Do you think this plan is feasible, or is there anything that would speak against it?
- The new cold water line would run above the electrical outlet. I assume that should be okay?
- The new position of the angle valves would be about 25cm (10 inches) to the right of the stove’s high-voltage connection. Would that be a problem?
Thank you in advance for your feedback!
Best regards

I also understand why you want to stick with your layout—I completely agree. We have a similar kitchen layout and are very happy with it.
One small idea on the side:
Since you will probably need to clad around 10-20cm (4-8 inches) there anyway, and you likely can’t have drawers or similar storage in that area (how are you solving this?), it might be nice to add a few more centimeters, put some cushions on top, and create a small bench. However, it could also get too tight, so it would need to be checked in detail.

Since you will have to cover 10-20cm (4-8 inches) there anyway and probably cannot have drawers or similar there (how do you plan to solve that?), it might be nice to add a few centimeters more, put some cushions on top, and create a small bench. But it could also become too tight, so you would need to check. Thanks for the feedback! We actually considered that, but unfortunately, we probably don’t have enough space for it...
The entire wall length on the left is 290cm (114 inches). We would need 2 high cabinets at 60cm (24 inches) each (+ 2 cover panels at 1.6cm (0.6 inches) each), and 3 cabinets between at 50cm (20 inches) each. That adds up to 273.2cm (108 inches), leaving about 17cm (7 inches) remaining.
Then, to the left of the tall cabinet, we also need 3-5cm (1-2 inches) of cover panel space so the fridge door can open properly.
That means on the right side (window side), a maximum depth of 12-14cm (5-6 inches) is possible for the paneling (with some buffer more around 10-12cm (4-5 inches)).
Therefore, we aimed to keep the paneling as “thin” as possible (<10cm (4 inches) deep) so the loss of room is minimal and it doesn’t visually stand out too much.

Why don’t you just upload the current kitchen plan? Because my focus is on the technical implementation of the water installation, and I wanted to avoid the discussion turning into a fundamental debate about the kitchen layout 🙂 Also, I would first need to recreate everything in a kitchen planner since so far we have always planned with kitchen studios.
But I agree that it would definitely be easier to imagine the whole setup with a picture of the kitchen.

How far is the window from the wall?
Try drawing the furniture on the plan, a pencil is enough for that.

Below, I have attached pictures with measurements. The distance from the floor to the underside of the windowsill is 99cm (39 inches). The countertop is planned to have a working height of 92cm (36 inches), so that should fit (in any case, our preferred solution is to cover the pipes only halfway up, as high as possible).
The lateral distance from the window to the left wall is 70cm (28 inches), which limits the kitchen length to a maximum overhang of 9cm (60cm (24 inches) cabinet depth + 9cm (3.5 inches) overhang + 1cm (0.4 inches) buffer).
