Hello dear forum,

I am a complete beginner when it comes to heating technology and hope to get some helpful guidance here.
We have a Viessmann boiler, model 1601 193R.

We want to replace it. We made a small "Google" attempt to see if it’s even possible for a layperson to compare systems. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy for us.
So here are the basic requirements for the new model:
Gas
Manufacturer doesn’t matter
Hot water storage tank (or none, if you think tankless water heating is better)
Heating circuits or operating mode controllable via smartphone
Error messages accessible to the end user (not just the technician or partner) via smartphone as well
A system that is very maintenance-friendly from your point of view and has good spare parts availability

We have two floors and a living area of 155 m2 (1670 sq ft). I hope I have provided enough information to maybe get a first suggestion. What we wonder is how much “kW” output we should pay attention to, etc.

Please forgive the beginner questions. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Best regards
Lucas

I would approach it differently... find a good heating engineer and ask what equipment they install – that way, they will know exactly what they are doing during installation and maintenance.

I would suggest the same. Get a few quotes and maybe discuss them.

You probably won’t be able to replace the heating system yourself anyway, right?

No, of course I cannot do that, unfortunately.

Since you’ll need a heating engineer anyway, have them provide a few quotes; after that, you can (to a limited extent remotely) discuss what makes the most sense.

May I ask why you want to replace the boiler? Is it broken?

Good question. No, it isn’t. But according to the Energy Saving Ordinance, I have to replace it anyway after 30 years, as far as I know. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to start looking today.
