ᐅ New Electricity Meter – No Bill Received from Supplier

Hello everyone,

Until now, my heat pump has been connected to my main electricity meter.
Then, on August 20, 2020, the utility installed a separate electricity meter for the heat pump.
There are already 7700 kWh registered on it. However, I noticed that I have never received a bill for this meter, and its meter number also does not appear in my customer portal.

What would you do in my situation?

Best regards

The grid operator will eventually notice that about 5,000 kWh per year are missing. That will definitely trigger a check or calculation.
Then it will also become apparent that a meter number supposedly has no associated “name/use.”

Is the heat pump/floor heating system actually running “low kWh”?

Is it really running low kWh?!
It consumes about 5,600 kWh per year for two residential units (underfloor heating, domestic hot water, and passive cooling).
Residential unit 1: 4 people – 140 m (460 feet)²
Residential unit 2: 3 people – 70 m (230 feet)²

Is that good?!

I’ve been thinking about it again...
I’ll probably get in touch and let you know.
Part of the new meter is included in the utility costs settlement for our tenant.
I can’t charge him for something we don’t pay ourselves. And if I have to pay several thousand euros later in three years, then I would also have to charge the tenant retroactively. That’s just asking for trouble.

You can’t charge the tenant for anything years later. For the operating costs settlement, you only have one year.

Hello everyone, I called the energy supplier in December and explained the situation. I also provided them with the meter number. They told me on the phone that they couldn’t find the meter in their system. They asked me to send all the information again by email because they couldn’t assist me further over the phone.

Seriously now... I’m already reaching out voluntarily, and now I’m supposed to chase the supplier? My phone call alone should be enough for them to internally check what’s going on. They could take some notes and then work with the meter technician to investigate. Am I required to not only make a voluntary call but also beg in writing just to prevent them from charging me unfairly?

Could it be that you misunderstood and the second bracket is only for separating the two residential units? Basically just internally for separate billing? Would it make sense that both consumed amounts are reflected by the reading of the other meter?

And that’s exactly why I would clarify the situation, even if it means chasing payments from other parties.
You can’t win in the short term and can’t pass on the costs yet.

A quick search shows that, according to § 17 of the German Electricity Supply Act (Stromgrundversorgungsverordnung), the statute of limitations period only starts when the final billing is issued! So, in effect, nothing expires before then.
